Our wonderful play and talented cast need your help to get to The Edinburgh Fringe!

We are raising £1,000 to get us to the Edinburgh fringe which will allow us to perform our incredible play in front of a discerning audience!

Who are we?

We are three actors, one director and two producers who are all undergraduates at The University of Manchester, studying a range of subjects ranging from Drama and English to Geography! We have come together as part of the University's Drama Society, which we are all incredibly proud to be members of.

Our story

We are raising £1,000 money so we can perform our amazing, hilarious and intimate show 'Her' at the Edinburgh Fringe for five nights from the 12th till the 17th of August!

Written by the wonderful Lauren Ellis-Stretch, 'Her' is a play that explores motherhood. Who can be a mother? What makes them a mother? And do we actually need one? The play unveils the complexities of familial relationships and of sexual and romantic pursuit, as sisters Cariad and Catrin confront the dysfunction of their relationship past and present, and the division that their unsuspecting visitor brings. On a day that was to be their mothers 50th birthday, the sisters are burdened by the notion of commemoration or, even, duty. But Catrin's got an eleven o'clock lecture and Cariad's got 500 words to write on Christine Baranski's 'big dick energy'. They've got their hands full with one guest, let alone two.

Taking a play to the Fringe is undoubtedly very costly. We hope to raise enough money to fund the costs involved with performing at the Fringe, and to allow us to make our play the best it can possibly be!

The Edinburgh Fringe is the world's largest arts festival, and so we are delighted by the prospect of performing our play there. Exciting theatrical opportunities like this are rare for students, especially since we are simply part of a university drama society, and not a company. Therefore we are thrilled to be able to have new, professional experiences that will help us learn and grow as budding young performers. It is such an achievement for us to be performing at the Fringe, and is something we are extremely proud of.

'Her' is written by Lauren Ellis - Stretch who is completing her second year at university. The rest of the cast and creative team is also comprised of first and second year students. It is such an achievement for these young adults to be performing at the Fringe, and is something they should be extremely proud of.

We believe that it is so important that new and original writing gets to be performed on stage, especially one as widely recognised as the Edinburgh Fringe. Your donation will give Lauren the chance to showcase her incredible play on the stage for the first time.

Where will the money go?

If we hit our minimum we’ll spend the funding on:

  • Venue: £500
  • Props and Set: £200
  • Costume: £25
  • Publicity materials: £75 (5,000 flyers and 100 posters)

If we hit our full target the money will go on:

  • Accommodation: £700
  • Travel: £300

If things really take off and we raise more than our target then the extra funds will be used to pay for extras such as insurance and music licencing.

We will give weekly updates on our social media pages about how we are doing with fundraising.

Hey, we have some fab rewards to thank everyone who donates, whatever the amount you might give. Check them out down the right hand side.
