A conference on Brexit and its implications for British youth

Who we are

We are the committee members of AEGEE Manchester - European Students Forum, a student society at the University of Manchester. We are part of AEGEE - one of the biggest youth organisations in Europe.

In Manchester we are committed to bringing European culture and identity to British youth.

our project

With your help we hope to host our most ambitious project yet. Over the course of 3 days we plan to host a series of activities related to that dreaded/loved word 'Brexit'.

A key aspect of the conference will be to create an active dialogue amongst Manchester students and other European youth. Our hope is to bring participants together through cultural exchange, workshops and activities. To accomplish our goals we have invited 25 young people from across the European continent. They will travel to our city at their own expense to meet the students of our university.

To enrich the students’ experience, we will welcome a variety of speakers knowledgeable on European issues. These will include freedom of movement and the future of citizen’s rights. Building on those conference sessions, our workshops will involve teamwork, presentation skills and debating, helping all the students attending to develop these vital skill areas.

The variety of knowledge and experiences our speakers will bring should challenge participants' perceptions of mainland Europe, the EU and Brussels, providing them with a better understanding of how international politics works, and being provided a real life insight.

With structured workshops for team building, group projects and the opportunity to present and debate, participants will be developing the soft skills that employers want specific examples of in interviews and in employment.

The knowledge gained, experiences shared and relationships built may even be the starting point for careers in international politics!

We hope this event will involve around 25 Manchester students but we will also be promoting this with our partner organisations in London and Sheffield.

Why we need your help

To make this project a reality, we need your help in providing funding for:

  • speaker expenses
  • venue costs
  • camera for interviews
  • promotional materials

Anything you can give would be enormously helpful in bringing together this event. We want to make sure the students involved get a chance to build key skills while engaging in meaningful debate with expert speakers.

Rewards

We have some great rewards, so please check them out on the side!
