University of Manchester Musical Theatre Society presents Little Women!

Who are we?

The University of Manchester Musical Theatre Society (UMMTS) is in its seventh year and has quickly grown into an extremely open, friendly and award-winning society; passionate about all aspects of musical theatre. We pride ourselves in providing a platform for aspiring musical theatre creatives to put on professional-level productions, as well as a safe space to socialise with other enthusiasts and convert the masses!

We produce four large-scale musicals each year plus numerous concept showcases. Our larger productions often reach around 350 students either creatively or as audience members.

Why we need your help!

As a society, we hold a number of events in order to raise money for our numerous shows, but due to renovations at the Students' Union Building this year, UMMTS is not able to access a free performance space large enough to house our productions. "The show must go on ", but the cost of renting out an external space has greatly affected the society financially. Subsequently we are turning to YOU, our wonderful supporters, to help keep UMMTS creating!

Your donations will be spent on the hire of Partisan Collective for four days, and help to support the cost of performance rights for Little Women the Musical. If we raise our minimum amount, this will cover the cost of set and props. If we reach our full target of £1000, it will greatly help us out with the cost of the venue.

What’s the Show?

Based on Louisa May Alcott's critically acclaimed book and with a beautiful score by Grammy Award winner Jason Howland, 'Little Women' follows the adventures of the four March sisters - Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy.  Jo, the second eldest of the March daughters and an aspiring writer, weaves the story of herself and her sisters as they grew up in 19th Century Massachusetts - a tale of heartache, hope and everlasting love.

The musical version of this well-loved classic story was first performed in the early 2000s – so it’s still quite new in musical terms! Working on a new musical has been an extremely enriching experience for the cast and creatives involved in the production. Our current cast, led by Freya Parry (a small girl with a powerful voice), is eleven strong and directed by Annie Williams (writer and director of 'Prettier Things', a 5-star Edinburgh Fringe show) and musically directed by Tom Pieczora (musical director of the NODA award-winning performances of the University of Manchester Musical Theatre Society's 'Avenue Q'). The opportunity to put on professional standard productions during university is an experience like no other and has inspired many of our past members to seek out a career in musical theatre after leaving the University.

Please help us

UMMTS reaches more and more students each year and with your donations, the society can continue to grow and inspire all those keen to get involved.

Please share our project with anyone you think would support us – we really appreciate your help.
